Shakespeare Schools Festival

Shakespeare Schools Festival is the UK’s largest youth drama festival, offering students from all backgrounds the opportunity to perform Shakespeare on their local professional stage. The festival works with over 1,000 schools and 150 professional theatres.

All the tools, support and guidance necessary are provided to enable schools to take students aged 8-18 on a wonderful journey by performing their own Shakespeare productions in front of a paying audience. Fran has worked as a Venue Director for the company since 2013.

Workshops and venue direction

As a workshop leader, Fran is responsible for running 2 ½ hour theatre workshops on how to stage Shakespeare, with combinations of Primary, Secondary and Special Schools.  The workshops take place in a professional theatre and two schools, with approximately 60 students participating in each.

As a Venue Director for Shakespeare Schools Festival, Fran is also responsible for hosting four schools in a professional theatre and running their technical and dress rehearsals. She is the face of the festival for the evening and introduces the shows as well as give final performance appraisals to each school at the end of the evening.
